5. The Three Graces

Antonio Canova’s famous The Three Graces are now back on display in the British Galleries after more than seven years at the National Galleries of Scotland (NGS).
Commissioned by John Russell, the 6th Duke of Bedford, for the sculpture gallery at Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire, the group was carved in Rome by  Antonio Canova (1757-1822) between 1814-1817. In Roman mythology, the three graces are the  daughters of Jupiter and the handmaidens of the  goddess Venus.
